Morocco Visa Requirements: Who Needs a Visa and What to Know at the Border

A private 10-day loop from Marrakech: Ait Benhaddou, the Dades and Todra gorges, a night in the Merzouga dunes, Fes, Chefchaouen, Rabat and Casablanca.
Ten days is enough to see the full sweep of Morocco without rushing: the High Atlas, the kasbahs of the south, the Sahara dunes, the imperial medinas and the blue town of the Rif. This private tour loops from Marrakech with your own driver and air-conditioned vehicle, mixing long scenic drives with nights in characterful riads, a kasbah hotel and a desert camp.
After a first night in Marrakech you cross the High Atlas via the Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260 m) to the fortified village of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO site and a familiar film location, and on to the Dades Valley. The next day takes in the towering walls of the Todra Gorge before reaching Merzouga, where you ride a camel into the Erg Chebbi dunes — some rising to around 150 m — for sunset and a night in a desert camp. From the Sahara the route turns north through the Ziz Valley, Midelt and the Middle Atlas cedar forests to Fes, about 8-9 hours with stops.
A licensed guide shows you Fes el-Bali, the world's great medieval medina, before you drive about 4 hours to Chefchaouen, whose blue-washed lanes you explore on foot. You then head to Rabat to see the Kasbah of the Udayas and the Hassan Tower, visit the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, and return to Marrakech for a guided medina tour before departure.
Every day's driving is broken up with photo and rest stops, and because the tour is private you can extend nights or adjust the route. If you are short on time, our 3-day Sahara desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga covers the southern section; for background, read our Marrakech travel guide.
