A private 7-day loop from Casablanca through Morocco's four imperial cities — Rabat, Meknes, Fes and Marrakech — plus Volubilis and the Middle Atlas cedar forests.
Morocco's four imperial cities — Rabat, Meknes, Fes and Marrakech — each served as the capital of a ruling dynasty, and together they tell the country's history from the Idrisids to the Alaouites. This private seven-day tour links them in a comfortable loop from Casablanca, with your own driver, air-conditioned vehicle, handpicked riads and hotels, and licensed local guides for the major medinas.
You begin with the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca before driving about 1h15 to Rabat, the modern capital, to see the Kasbah of the Udayas, the unfinished Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V. Next comes Meknes, the 17th-century capital of Sultan Moulay Ismail, with its monumental Bab Mansour gate, and the Roman ruins of Volubilis, a UNESCO site known for its floor mosaics. Two nights in Fes give you a full day with a guide in Fes el-Bali, the medieval medina of madrasas, souks and tanneries.
The longest drive, about 7-8 hours with stops, crosses the Middle Atlas via Ifrane, nicknamed "the Switzerland of Morocco" for its alpine-style architecture, and the cedar forest near Azrou, home to Barbary macaques. You then descend through Beni Mellal to Marrakech for two nights: a guided tour of the medina, the Bahia Palace and the souks, and a free day to explore on your own or add an excursion. On day seven your driver takes you back to Casablanca or Mohammed V Airport.
Because the tour is private, the itinerary can be adjusted — extra nights, a different hotel category or a detour. See our Casablanca destination guide to plan your arrival, or, if you have more time, compare it with our 10-day grand Morocco tour including the Sahara.
Pickup at your hotel or the airport and guided visit of the Hassan II Mosque. Drive about 1h15 to Rabat to see the Kasbah of the Udayas, the Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V. Overnight in Rabat.
Drive about 2 hours to Meknes to see Bab Mansour and the old medina of Moulay Ismail. Continue to the Roman ruins of Volubilis and past the holy town of Moulay Idriss, arriving in Fes in the late afternoon.
A licensed guide leads you through Fes el-Bali: Bab Bou Jeloud, the Bou Inania Madrasa, the Al-Qarawiyyin gates and the Chouara tannery. Afternoon at leisure, with an optional view over the city from the Merenid Tombs.
Cross the Middle Atlas via Ifrane and the cedar forest near Azrou, where Barbary macaques live. Continue via Beni Mellal to Marrakech, about 7-8 hours of driving with stops.
Discover the medina with a local guide: the Koutoubia, Bahia Palace, the souks and Jemaa el-Fnaa. Evening free to enjoy the square's food stalls.
Spend the day at your own pace — Majorelle Garden, a hammam, shopping — or add an optional excursion to the Ourika Valley or the Agafay desert (not included).
Drive about 3 hours on the motorway back to Casablanca, with drop-off at your hotel or Mohammed V Airport.
