Full description

The Palmeraie, a vast palm grove on the northern edge of Marrakech, is only 20-30 minutes from the medina yet feels like another world: sandy tracks, dry riverbeds and earth-built hamlets surrounded by date palms. This half-day adventure combines two ways to explore it — an off-road quad session and a traditional camel ride — with round-trip hotel transfers included.

Quad biking in the palm grove

At the base camp you are given a helmet, goggles and a scarf (a chèche) to keep the dust out, followed by a safety briefing and a short practice lap. Then you follow your guide in single file for around 1.5 hours on tracks through the palm grove and the surrounding stony plains, with a stop at a Berber family home for mint tea and bread with olive oil. The quads are automatic, so no previous experience is needed, and the guide adapts the pace to the group.

Camel ride among the palms

Back at base, you swap engines for camels (strictly speaking, one-humped dromedaries). A cameleer leads the caravan for a calm ride of about 45 minutes to 1 hour through the palms — a good chance for photos, especially on the afternoon session as the light softens. You can dress up in a traditional Berber outfit if you wish.

This combo suits travellers who want a taste of the outdoors without a long drive. For a real desert landscape near the city, compare it with our Agafay desert sunset camel ride and dinner, and see our Marrakech travel guide for more activities.
